THE JOY OF DECORATING
Inspired by History
Three years ago, I fell in love with an abandoned townhouse in the Dordogne. Built in the 18th century in a French medieval town, the house didn’t have any functioning bathroom, electricity or mains water. When I bought it, the house was in total disrepair and hadn’t been touched since the 1950s.
Facing the tough requirements of French bureaucracy as well as a global pandemic, the process of restoring became increasily challenging, since I live in England and I can only visit for short periods at the time.
It was during the first lockdown that the idea of creating a website was born to catalogue the sources of inspiration that would help make design choices and find out the best way to achieve the renovations between trips from England and France.
Spanning interiors and the French lifestyle, French Home Makeover, is a destination for creativity and dedicated to the beauty of French interiors. I created French Home Makeover as a form of a digital restoration diary that could also pay homage to French culture and lifestyle.
“I was able to see through all the dirt and grime, when most of people thought how crazy I was.”
Combining paint colours, fabric swatches and sometimes wallpaper samples, moodboards can offer a very creative vision in a limited space on which you can plan and craft your creation.
“I enjoy creating my own moodboards and I usually work intuitively with whatever I have to hand. I like to take the time to set up a relaxing space to get creative and explore different colours, textures and samples”.
